2025 After-School Sessions
About: After-school sessions are groups of up to four learners. Learners will participate in reading activities and games with horses and other farm animals. This course is for readers who have never participated in a Rearing2Read program.
Date(s) and Time: After-school sessions run on Tuesdays. Learners are dropped off at 4 PM and picked up at 5:15 PM. Dates are April 1- May 20th. This program is full for Spring 2025!
Tuition: Thanks to generous donations from fellow families and local community members, Rearing2Read is a low-cost, tuition-assisted investment for a lifelong skill. In 2025 our program will run tuition-free, with a recommended donation of $125 per program/participant. No one will be turned away from this program due to cost. Do not hesitate to reach out about donations!
Horsemanship Book Club
About: The Horsemanship Book Club is a four-week course for readers who have participated in a R2R program before. During class, we’ll read a book about a specific horsemanship skill and then do fun activities to practice!

Tuition: The recommended donation for this program is $80.
Diversity and Inclusion Book Club
***New Program coming in 2025***
About: We received a generous grant from Elon University that included new book sets focused on diversity and inclusion. During this class, we will read these books, have discussions, and spend time around the farm!

2025 Summer Camps
About: Summer camps are for learners who need or want a session for learning new skills and making new friends.
2025 Sessions Date(s) and Times:
June 18-20- Summer Camp- 9am-12pm. Grades K-5
June 18-20- Big Sisters Summer Camp- 1-4pm. Grades K-5. Partipants must be the oldest sister in the family.
Tuition: The recommended donation for camps is $275. We highly encourage families to make a $30-$40 donation when signing up for summer camp to cover the cost of camp supplies.
Open Houses
About: Open houses are for learners and their families to attend to meet Ali and learn more about the program. Attendees arrive at the farm and meet in the arena for opening remarks. After, they rotate through literacy stations.

Virtual Field Trips
About: Virtual field trips are conducted through Zoom and give a "virtual" glance into the farm as a classroom. Ali will Zoom in with the help of a hooved friend to teach a learning session with your class!
2025 Workshops
About: Workshops run on Saturdays in the Fall and Spring. They are one-day events open to past participants of the Rearing2Read after-school programs. Each workshop has a reading theme.

Poetry At The Farm
Faith Litchfield, "OCS Youth Poet Laureate", will share her poetry and her process of writing. Then, we will get a chance to write our own poetry around the farm!

Halloween Party
Come to the farm dressed in costume! We will play scary reading games, trick-or-treat around the farm, and have a haunted walk!

Storytelling Around The Farm
Visiting author, Terry Perkins Mitman, will come tell stories to and with us! We will read Terry's book, Douglas the Rabbit, read the sequel book to our furry friends, learn about Terry's writing process and then get a chance to write or tell a story about our own favorite farm animal!
