Labor Day weekend was the perfect time to get some REAL work done on this project.
After scoring all three movements the last week of August, I devoted some of my extended weekend to prepping the individual parts. This is where I always find my errors, make scoring changes, and spend LOTS of quality time with the music.
This week, I will send the draft full score to be printed and bound. PDF copies of the parts will be uploaded to the cloud where WSU can access and print them for the Wind Ensemble. Chances are the piece won't get a first rehearsal until after the Pep Band plays for the opening football game. I know my place!
A live recording will come soon enough. In the meantime, here's a Sibelius-Ableton renedered version of re-synth!
COVER DESIGN
Last month, I posted my ideas on how to show the "Tech" soloist how and when to turn their FX/Volume knob.
In the end, I was able to reduce some confusion by limiting each Tech to one knob in all of the movements.
I spent some time "performing" each of the Tech parts along with Sibelius playback and realized that the players need to know what position the knob should be each time it used.
So, the position graphics I thought I'd wasted my time creating turned out to be just what was needed.
I also found it helpful to know what sound or action is being triggered when a note is played
Below is Tech 4's part for the final (Mixolydian) movement. Time will tell if this is sufficient for the players or if cues might be helpful in strategic spots.
