FIRST FRIDAYS

The Church has blessed this pious practice that originated in Christ’s promises to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque, underlining the spirit of reparation and conversion that ought to characterize our observance of first Fridays.

“I promise you, in the exceedingly great mercy of my Heart, that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who receive holy Communion on the first Friday for nine consecutive months, the grace of final repentance” (Benedict XV recalls these words of Christ in St. Margaret Mary Alacoque’s bull of canonization).

Holy Communion on first Fridays should lead to a deep spiritual renewal, as reparation for the sins we committed the past month and as a help to live closer to Christ for the next month. It should also help us increase our dedication to the apostolate for the salvation of souls.
