Racing Rules and Right of Way Rules

Rawdon Model Boat Club is not affiliated to the Model Yachting Association (MYA), at the time of writing.  However that does not prevent us from observing the Racing Rules or the Right of Way Rules.

Model yachts sail to the same rules as their full sized counterparts, they use rules as laid down by the

Royal Yachting Association (RYA).

It is recommended that beginners, as well as experienced skippers of model yachts, familiarise themselves with those rules and put them into practice to ensure safe and fair racing.

Copies of the RYA Racing Rules are available to buy at a very reasonable price.  Please log on to;

www.rya.org.uk/shop/p/rya-racing-rules-sailing-2021-2024 the books are well presented and easy to follow.

There is another useful RYA web page to look at.  Please log on to;

www.rya.org.uk/racing/rules/learn-the-rules  and watch the instructional videos.

The Model Yachting Association (MYA) also provide videos that discuss the racing rules in practice.  Please log on to:

www.mya-uk.org.uk/kb/rules-tutorial-videos/ and watch the live action demonstrations of the rules in practice.

The MYA has a free download, the "Beginners Guide to the Basic Racing Rules".  Please log on to:

www.mya-uk.org.uk/kb/beginners-guide-to-the-basic-racing-rules/ the diagrams help to illustrate the rules in practice.
