Project Overview
This project, “AR-tifact”, is an Augmented Reality experiences that brings three ancient Chinese artifacts to life. The 3 artifacts I modeled are Chinese Ding (鼎), Chinese sword, and Teapot. Chinese Ding is a bronze artifact originally built to cook, but later became a symbol for power and authority, especially for emperors; Sword was a widely use weapon in ancient China; blue and white porcelain teapot is iconic to Chinese tea culture.
I used Maya to design the virtual model, and developed the AR experience in Unity Game Engine. In this very exploratory and experimental project, I am so excited to learn about the development of Augmented Reality (AR) experience.

The experience of exploring emerging technologies, like AR, and designing through such media is so rewarding. This project provides me with new insights on the role of designers. With various emerging technologies gradually become essential part of our life. From my perspective, as new generation of creatives, we should equip the mindset of embracing new technologies. We should always stay curious and exploratory when new possibilities are on the horizon.
