My unusual memory comes from the time I was a signalman at Marks Tey Yard in Essex. I was on a 12hour Sunday day shift late summer of either 88 or 89. Having spent the morning doing a box clean, I heard a plane in the distance and knew straight away it was not just a Cessna. I ran to the balcony to see a spitfire following the A12 road which runs parallel to the Great Eastern line between Liverpool St and Norwich. It was heading East which meant the Down direction. I then entered this in the train register on the Down page, seeing as it was an unusual occurrence. Literally less than 10 minutes later, this same aircraft was retracing its path at low level in the opposite direction! I duly entered this in the up page.
