The Aim of the Railway Memory Bank is to collect many memories from many people across the UK to preserve for the Future. We're looking for memories from around the country to help document how our railways used to be.
Our ultimate Aim is to interview people face to face, recording in an appropriate memory for the associated memory, for example, a signaller retracing there memory in a signal box. It is also our aim to publish selected memories in a book, for all to read at there own leisure, so that people may more easily learn from people's memories.
Many stories include photos from some of the ‘Glory Days’. Photos of unusual movements can help people rewrite the history of Locomotives, Units, stations and even lines. This is why photos are often as important as memories.
