This part of the site is dedicated to the memories of current and former workers. These include:
- Whilst at University I was fortunate to get a placement with the Area Engineers office in Exeter (BR days, as they were just being consulted on privatisation), so I got to survey signal boxes, and stations, and I worked briefly on the (new) Ivybridge Station.
- 2016, Trainee Shunter and was working the washwood heath to Boston docks steel train. In the cab of 56113 pitch black on jointed track at 60mph. BANG! I look over to the driver and say what's that and he calmly says "oh just the loco bottoming out" never held onto a seat so hard in my life. Really enjoyed it.
- 1 have 2 memories with my grandfather. He was in the railway police and worked at Edinburgh Station. I was pre school aged and he'd often take me on his days off the check on things. In those days (1968/9) Edinburgh station had a huge wooden ticket office in what is now the main waiting area. He said to me, watch what happens when we go in here. We used to walk in, and all the low life used to walk out. He didn't say anything, or look at anyone in particular and even out of uniform, he was recognised. I am still in awe of the power his presence had. The other was standing on the footbridge in Princes Street Gardens over the railway line with steam trains passing under us. They hooted their horn and created a cloud of steam which engulfed us. Scary and exciting all at once.
