This project was created in my 2nd semester of my 1st year using Unreal Engine 4. For this project, I was going for a different type of direction. I wanted to mainly improve my skills in level design. In order to do this, I went for a unique style on how the level is progressed. Instead of travelling through the level forwards you travel downwards, and the lower you go the closer you get to the end. I also wanted to test how many mechanics I could fit in the level with the amount of time I had to complete the project. I added a couple small puzzles and bright colours to keep the player engaged and chat boxes for lore.
- GAMEPLAY -
In this third-person adventure RPG you play as a small goblin named Deek and must breach your way through the hidden cave and save your other goblin friends. You must complete puzzles and avoid lava to find and defeat the big boss named Barrel Barry in order to make sure this never happens again.
MECHANICS
Press 'V' near a collectable to pick it up and use the scroll wheel to rotate the object.
After picking up an object press 'right-click' to kick it.
When the player is near an edge of an object they are able to either grapple the edge and pull themselves up or shimmy left or right.
When the player touches the checkpoint, when the player dies they respawn back at the checkpoint instead of at the beginning.
When the player picks up a key they have access to a prison door they can unlock.
When a key is used on a locked door the player must press 'F' in order to open it and the red light will turn green.
You start off with a simple puzzle where you must pick up the green ball and kick it into the red buttons to open the door.
Each door leads to a different route but not every route takes you where you need to go.
Barrel Barry is the main boss you fight near the end of the level. He shoots 6 projectiles every 5 seconds. You must kill him in order to open the final door.
The player must pick up the bomb and kick it at Barrel Barry to deal damage. The bomb deals 50 damage and has 100 radius.
Hammers swing left and right and deal 10 damage to the player when they get hit.
When the player climbs on top of the minecart it begins moving until they jump off.
