The competent teacher has in-depth understanding of content area knowledge that includes central concepts, methods of inquiry, structures of the disciplines, and content area literacy. The teacher creates meaningful learning experiences for each student based upon interactions among content area and pedagogical knowledge, and evidence-based practice.
Below you will a lesson plans that show I am able to understand the content that needs to be taught and I can use that information to create an effective lesson plan.
Some students need specific strategies to be successful in academic endeavors. This lesson shows a strategy that could help my students develop more phonemic awareness skills In this lesson students learn to sort the words into the A sound.
Like Illinios Professional Learning standard 2C explains I was able to understand the cognitive processes used for a specific type of learning (phonemic awareness) and created an activity that uses that knowledge to teach my students.(Illinois State Board of Education, 2013) While this lesson is simple, it shows a strategy that helps students understand a specific phonics skill and targets it. It show that I understand how to plan for specific content.
This lesson taught me that even small tings are helpful for children, it can be a simple activity that hits the content that you need for students.
This is another lesson plan that shows that I use mutliple methods for instructional delivery. I use two different methods to teach and use both paper and digital resources to deliver my lesson plan. I understand how both my activities and the learning standards connect and I can create a lesson based on those standard
Like Illinois Professional Teaching Standard 2F I used the tools and knowledge found to research topics found in a scholarly article to justify and think about the best practices for this subject. I used scholarly articles in each activity of this lesson and Incorporated these practices into the lesson. (Illinois State Board of Education, 2013)I also cited my references as well. This shows that I have an understanding of what the Illinois Learning Standards are asking for in their standards. I learned to take the standards and put make sure they are lining up with what I am teaching in class.
In this lesson, I learned that sometimes when your lesson isn't lining up with any of the standards, then you need to rethink how/what you are teaching. You may be looking at the standard or the curriculum in the wrong way. I had to change my lesson a little bit to make it fit into the standard.
