"Champion Daily Devotional" is a Facebook Fanpage website (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100082741773964) for Christians to get their daily bread. It was posted regularly daily from May 2021 to May 2024. The posting will be changed to a personal daily devotional when the following technologies are gradually reached.
The Champion Daily Devotional was originated from selectively translating “Streams in the Desert” to my children far away, encouraging them to maintain a Christian attitude when they face life's challenges. This went on for three years. Later, the Champion Daily Devotional was opened to the public through the Facebook fan page, and the content gradually changed to the sermons listened or the reflections of Bible studies. This lasted for two years, and in the second year, I used the tools of generative AI to help me revise the illustrations and list daily questions, divided into explanatory questions and daily application questions.
As technology changes, Champion Daily Devotionals also begin to have some new ideas in their daily spiritual practice. First, we hope that the experience of listening to sermons or Bible studies can be automated. For example, software can be developed so that the sermons and reflections can be converted from sounds into text, and then generative AI can organize the content and write summaries, inferences, and questions and answers. These have long been viable technologies, and there are tech-savvy preachers who have developed similar tools.
The second is a larger vision: In the era of AI innovation, various illegal activities caused by technology are increasing day by day. Some people have proposed “Constitutional AI", which means that when AI generates content, it must comply with a set of charter rules to eliminate illegality. This coincides with my initiative of "Biblical AI", and the content of biblicalization is the Christians' daily devotionals with God, somewhat like the famous habit of Zengzi (曾子), a disciple of Confucius: "I examine myself three times a day: Have I been doing my best for others? Have I been sincere in my interactions with friends? Have I reviewed teachings and practiced them?" (Especially the third part of "do I review and practice teachings?") Therefore, there is a more advanced theory of Biblical AI than Constitutional AI: Biblical AI is a "personalized real-time learning." Like a suckling baby, it gradually grows into an adult and its mind gradually matures (1 Peter 2:2).
However, in terms of technology, achieving "personalized real-time learning" is not that simple. We know that the current generative AI first uses a large amount of data to pre-train and finetune, and then responds to the prompt according to the hundreds of millions of finetuned parameters. Therefore, these parameters are fixed. If the data is added or updated, the process will have to be run again. The money, time, computing power and energy consumed each time are huge. Only giant companies can do this. Not to mention that it is impossible for individuals, even billionaires cannot bear to run it in real time, either (that is, run it as soon as the data is updated). It is very difficult to implement this under the so-called Von Neumann architecture of current traditional computers (whether it is a CPU or a GPU). A quantum computer can easily realize this concept of "integrated computing, storage, and learning", while traditional computers with expensive HBM-PIM, etc. can also do it but less powerful.
(Generative AI scholars have had the so-called "long context" algorithm, i.e., how to use a large memory to fiddle with these billions of parameters. Currently, they rely on large storage hardware and high-band bus hardware, such as High Bandwidth Memory-Processing-in-Memory, HBM-PIM, which is very expensive. And for real-time learning, it is even more impossible. For quantum processors, computing and memory are rooted in one qubit, adding by quantum computing supremacy in speed, so that "calculation, storage, and learning can be integrated".)
I therefore announce here that Champion Daily Devotional will halt for some time until the above technology is gradually reached.
In the future, "Champion Daily Devotionals" may meet with our viewers in a different format. Stay tuned...
