In the world of education, there are those special individuals who light up the room with their passion and dedication, leaving a lasting impact on students. Recently, I had the incredible opportunity to meet one such person, Mr. Gavin, an Australian educator committed to spreading awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our encounter took place during an interactive session with my fellow classmates in PYP 5, and it was truly eye-opening.
From the moment Mr. Gavin began speaking, his warmth and genuine enthusiasm drew us in. It felt like we were embarking on a journey into the realm of sustainable development and global citizenship. The session commenced with an introduction to the SDGs, a set of 17 ambitious objectives adopted by countries worldwide to tackle pressing global issues such as poverty, inequality, and climate change. Mr. Gavin skillfully simplified these complex concepts, making them understandable and relevant to our young minds.
What made the session truly special was Mr. Gavin's interactive approach. In our recent class session, we had the exciting opportunity to dive into the world of chart organization and creativity, led by Ms. Bithi. In the midst of their inquiry, Dr. Subrahmanyam patiently fielded each question from the eager children, his demeanor a blend of encouragement and expertise. With a gentle smile, he welcomed their queries, understanding that each question held the potential for deeper understanding.
With unwavering patience, he navigated through the labyrinth of their inquiries, offering clear explanations peppered with references and examples. Drawing from a wealth of knowledge, he painted a vivid picture of volcanic eruptions and tectonic plate movements, illustrating his points with tangible examples from around the world.

Our learners had the privilege of hosting a virtual guest lecture featuring representatives from the Save Soil Initiative at the Esha Foundation. During this enlightening session, Ms. Anjani and Ms. Lu passionately discussed the intricacies of soil formation and the pressing issue of soil erosion. Their expertise provided valuable insights into the significance of soil health and its impact on various aspects of our lives, from agriculture to the environment as a whole. It was truly eye-opening to learn about the initiatives and efforts led by Sadhguru to promote awareness and sustainable practices regarding soil conservation. This session has inspired us to take action in preserving this essential natural resource and to actively engage in initiatives aimed at safeguarding our planet's soil for future generations.
Furthermore, following the guest lecture, we engaged in a reflective process using the Visual Thinking Routine - "Think, Feel, and Care." This exercise allowed us to delve deeper into our thoughts and emotions sparked by the discussion. We contemplated the intricate connections between soil health and our collective well-being, fostering a sense of responsibility and care for the Earth's ecosystems. Through this reflective practice, we are better equipped to translate inspiration into action, driving meaningful change in soil conservation efforts and beyond.
