Jon Kabat-Zinn defines mindfulness as a way to pay attention to the moment on purpose. It is a way to give ourselves grace from regrets of the past and the worries we have about the future. Mindfulness allows us to be in the "right now" of our lives. Living life more mindfully can help reduce stress and handle difficult things as they come. When you practice mindfulness, you notice what is happening right in the moment and you accept it (it is what it is) instead of obsessing over what you wish it was or what you wish it could be (Galanti, 2020, p.38-34).
