MNCH
If it takes two to tango, then it should not be left for one to handle
Nigeria reports an estimated 58,000 maternal deaths annually.
Men can play a part in reducing the death rate by getting more involved in Maternal, Newborn and child Health (MNCH)
Male involvement in MNCH
This is referred to as the direct and indirect support given by the male gender to promote their partners’ and children’s health during pregnancy, delivery and after delivery.
It is an effective strategy in promoting maternal Neonatal and Child health services in low- and middle-income countries.
The input of the male gender in support, love and care, makes the pregnancy, delivery and after delivery process easier for the family at large
Will you be involved when the time comes?
Benefits of Male involvement in MNCH
Ensures adequate support for the woman through pregnancy, delivery and newborn care
Gives men better understanding of the process involved in pregnancy, labor and child care
Improves communication among partners which reduces maternal workload
Enhances the mother's ability to care for herself and infant, thereby improving their health
Encourages antenatal and postnatal visits
Adequate support facilitates and improves home care practices for the mother and newborn
Given that men play an important role as partners, husbands or fathers, their involvement in MNCH promotes informed decisions about reproductive, maternal and child health
