My name is Lorena Gonzalez Espitia. I am from Salinas, California. I am a first-year Sport Pedagogy and Adapted PE PhD student at University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. I graduated from University of the Southwest with a B.S. in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Exercise Science and a M.A. in Kinesiology with an emphasis on Adapted Physical Education at California State University-Chico. As a graduate student in Chico, I worked as a paraprofessional at the high school level in a mod/severe classroom and also participated in a study abroad program where we traveled to Italy to partner up with their educators and non-profit organizations serving adults and youth with disabilities. Also, I was part of a two week program along with other graduate students at Chico State, where we traveled to Dubai/Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates to educate current educators in PE/APE on motor assessments like the CARE-R2 and present modifications for PA/PE for students with disabilities. My research interests are strategic promotion for PE/PA for marginalized populations who have children with developmental disabilities and exploring the experiences/barriers families face accessing school-based services.Â
