My mission is to provide the highest standard of nursing care to all my clients. I strive to meet this goal by catering to the cultural practices of my clients, continuing my nursing education, and embedding holistic principles of care into my practice.
Nursing is a profession that provides equitable care, promotes health, and prevents illness by looking at a client through a holistic and idiosyncratic lens. It is my duty as a nurse to advocate for the proper treatment and welfare of my client. My philosophy serves as a guide as I work towards the end goal of regaining the client's autonomy. This model of nursing care is modeled after the internationally recognized nursing theorist Virginia Henderson. In her nursing literature, The Nature of Nursing, Henderson (1966) redefines nursing practice stating, "The unique function of the nurse is to assist the individual, sick or well, in the performance of those activities contributing to health or its recovery (or to peaceful death) that he would perform unaided if he had the necessary strength, will or knowledge. And to do this in such a way as to help him gain independence as rapidly as possible" (p. 15). Working as a professional nurse, I will actively work day in and day out to apply interventions that will promote my client's autonomy so that they can return to their homes in time to be with their loved ones.
My vision is to ensure holistic and equitable care to each client through collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
