The Acting White Accusation

The Acting white accusation is one of the most negative accusations one African American adolescent can hurl at another. These accusations may be given directly or indirectly in the form of verbal attacks for not being Black enough or in other words possessing stereotypically White characteristics identified by the Black community, such as dressing preppy or speaking proper. Our lab examines the acting White accusation in the Black community and psychological implications of this specific minority experience.

Study data include acting White accusation experiences, racial identity, ethnic identity, anxiety, and bully victimization.
