1. Open Power BI Desktop:
Launch Power BI Desktop on your computer.
2. Load Your Data:
Click on Home > Get Data.
Choose your data source (e.g., Excel, SQL Server, etc.) and load your data into Power BI.
3. Select the Data for the Line Chart:
In the "Fields Pane", select the data fields you want to visualize. For example, you might choose Date and sales.
4. Insert a Line Chart:
Go to the "Build" pane on the right side.
Click on the Line Chart icon.
5. Configure the Line Chart:
Drag the desired fields to the appropriate areas in the Build pane
6. Customize the Line Chart:
Use the "Format" pane to customize the appearance of your chart. You can change colors, add data labels, adjust axis titles, and more.
1. See the sales by Year and Quarter
You have four "Arrow Buttons" located on the top of your line chart. Click on the 4th button to get sales by year and quarter
2. See the sales in different hierarchies (Sales by Year, Sales by Quarter, Sales by Month, Sales by Day)
Try going to next levels in hierarchy by clicking on the third "double arrow" button. Each time you click the button it will drill down to next hierarchy. To drill up again to previous level, click on first "arrow button"
Tip
1. Drill on a particular data point on a line chart
To drill on a particular point on a line chart, click the second arrow button - this will turn on the drill mode - now click on any point on the line chart to see the sales at that particular point.
