I am _____ from New Taipei City. There are five people in my family – my parents, my two older sisters, and I. When I was a one-year-old baby, my father got into a work accident and become a paraplegic. Ever since, the heavy economic burdens have fallen on the shoulder of my mom. My two older sisters always support me, encourage me, and, most important of all, give suggestions when I encounter difficulties.
Being raised up in this warm and loving family, I become an independent and persevering person. I always maintain independence and take initiatives to make things better. I have extensive interest for arts, like singing, reading novels, and watching movie. When I am singing, the melody can always make me relaxed. In my free time, I also love reading novels to broaden my horizons. Besides, watching movie can help me understand the world from others’ perspectives. There are many good sentences and thoughts that I can find in those movies. For example, I take “perfecting the ordinary is extraordinary” from “The King George VI of England” to be my motto and encourage myself to do the best with everything to achieve “extraordinary.”
To help their daughter be a global villager and get to know the world, my parents deemed it vital to learn English. They cultivated my interests in English when I was young and when I went to senior high school, I chose to be enrolled in English department to be an English major. In our department where possess first-rate facilities and fabulous faculty, I learn different cultures as well as expanding my international perspectives.
To me, learning in English department is like living in a global village for we have foreign exchanging students from different countries and language is like a key opening a door to the world. Now I can make conversation easily with foreigners. I love talking to them, smiling, enjoying the “exotic atmosphere” of being with them.
This yea, I gave myself a challenge – being a master of ceremonies when the Japanese visited our school, which not only made a dent in my life, but also proved my English competence. Besides, I am a cadre in Student Association. I am responsible for assisting and arranging activities in our school, such as singing contests or Teacher’s Day’s celebration. Hard though it might be, it fulfilled my sense of responsibility as well as bringing me a strong sense of achievement.
“Sustainable cities and communities” is an issue that we have to deal with in our daily lives. It includes three parts, the sustainability of environment, society, and economy. Take environment sustainability for example. Modern machines, which consume coals or fossil fuel, not only contribute to the air pollution but also make a hole in the atmosphere. The plastic products are cheap and convenient for human being to use but it is difficult to decompose in the nature and harm the marine lives. We, as human being, have to strike a balance between modern civilization and environmental protection.
By joining International Youth Leadership Conference on Environment, it is a great chance for me to realize myself and do my part in environment protection. It is hoped that I can embrace different cultures, encourage myself, and make the world a better place.
