All students will use their available technology at home, whether it is a desktop computer, laptop computer, tablet, or smartphone.
If students need a device, the school and/or district may lend out technology by signing them out to students so that they can have access to their academic education. It is also becoming increasingly common for public libraries to offer laptop or chromebook borrowing services. Please check with your local library to see if they offer this service.
Below is a list of platforms that were utilized to build this website. Some platforms will require Educator and/or Students accounts to use.
Do your students have their own email address yet? If your students do not have their own email addresses through your school, you may want to consider asking parents to set-up their child with their own Gmail/Google account. Parents will need to set-up the account for any child under 13 years of age, and link it to their own Gmail address. Now, the child will have their own Gmail address for sign-in purposes, as well as access to Google Workspace applications, like Google Docs. An extra bonus is that it provides parents with the option of setting up a variety of different parental controls to create a safer web browsing experience (provided the child is using the Chrome browser and signed into their account).

Google Meet is used for communicating with individuals through video for an unlimited amount of time. Educators can connect with their students to check in, teach a class, or even read a book for story time. Google Meet requires a Gmail/Google account (please see above). However, please feel free to use any video-conferencing platform that suits your needs. Other popular platforms include Zoom or Microsoft Teams.
Epic! is a digital library that contains over 40,000 children's books that families and educators can access on a computer or by downloading the app to a tablet or phone. Educators can set-up an account to provide their students with access to most of the library during school hours for free that students access with a class code. Parents can also set-up an account to provide their children with limited access to the library (2 hours per week) for free. A premium membership with unlimited access is available if you subscribe and pay for a monthly or yearly membership. Many of the books that we recommend for this unit are available on Epic! for your convenience.

Padlet is one of the main platforms that is being used on our website for sharing information and collaboration. To register, teachers can provide their email address and set up a password. Once registered, teachers can create "walls" that have different formats and layouts and share them with their students who can start posting and collaborating right away. The walls can be private or available to everyone who has a link and students do not need to register to post. Students can post their notes that may contain links to different websites, videos, drawings, and images. It is a great place for collaboration, creativity, and sharing of information. Check it out!
On our website, we are using Padlet Walls in every module and utilizing it for assessment purposes such as a KWL tool and a digital portfolio for students to post and share their work.
