Dear Families,
Thank you for visiting our website and a warm welcome to all of you. We hope you enjoy learning with nature!
As you embark on this learning journey, we invite you to become familiar with this online learning platform and the tools you will be using during the five modules. Please refer to the Technology Requirements & Tutorials for Students section below for more information and please ensure you have all the accounts set up before you start learning. This will allow for a more enjoyable and smooth experience.
Students are invited to visit the "Student's Corner" section of this website and complete tasks and activities in each module. You can find 5 different modules of learning in the "Student's Corner." Each module is one week long and offers 5-6 learning activities, 2 tasks, and bonus activities. Students are able to complete activities at their own pace. Please read the descriptions and the requirements carefully before you start an activity.
Please note:
Tasks A and B are mandatory and need to be filled out in the Know-Wonder-Learn (KWL) chart in Padlet. Students must complete Task A at the beginning of each module and Task B at the end of each the module.
"Sharing Circle" in Padlet is a space for your child to share their learning with the rest of the class and their teacher. This can be done in the form of a video, a picture, or a piece of writing. In addition, your child may choose to share links to other online resources.
Your classroom teacher will determine how many activities your child must complete in each module.
Your child only needs to visit the "Student's Corner" for completing tasks and activities. The "Teacher's Corner" has been designed for teacher's use only.
This website has been created for rural, Kindergarten to Grade 3 students doing remote learning. The activities on the website are aligned with the BC New Curriculum. Families, remember to adjust the level of the work to what your child is able to do. Some activities might need to be more complex while others simpler depending on their age and grade level, as well as the style and type of learner your child is. Follow the lead of your child and enjoy the work together. Above all, have fun! :)
Unless otherwise stated, your child's teacher will be available during regular school hours to answer or address any of your questions, comments, or concerns. Your teacher will state their preferred way of communicating. Please allow for 24 hours for your teacher to get back to you. Clear communication is a key to success. Please feel free to reach out to your classmates and/or your classroom teacher should you need any help or assistance.
How will students' learning be assessed?
Teachers will be utilizing a variety of assessment strategies to assess students' progress and learning in each module and at the end of the course. It is expected that students participate actively in online activities and make contributions in Padlet throughout the week. At the end of the course, teachers will provide students with a holistic report.
What should I do if I cannot hand in my assignment on time?
Please let your teacher know far in advance if you cannot hand in your assignment on time.
What should I do if I am experiencing technical difficulties?
Try restarting your device.
Try using a different device, if possible, to access content and materials.
Check if your WiFi is working. If not, contact your provider.
Ask a friend to help you out.
If none of the above works, contact your teacher.
How much adult help or supervision will my child need?
This will depend on the age of your child and whether or not they are reading independently. We would encourage parents to promote independence with your child's use of technology and help them navigate the website on their own by assisting them with posting on Padlet a few times until they are comfortable using it. It is recommended that you review each activity with your child, read instructions, and ensure that they understand the task. There are some activities that will require parent supervision. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher if you feel that they are not understanding the material and require assistance.
