The following design calculations are done with aPsychroAC program.

Worked Example 5 - Operating Room 100% OA + Heat Recovery System (in IP units)

Given the following design information for an Operating Room of approx. 430 ft2 x 10 ft high:

RSH = 8.19 MBtu/hr.

RLH = 1.6 MBtu/hr.

Summer outdoor conditions = 100 oF DB, 74 oF WB.

Room design conditions = 62 oF DB, 55% RH.

OA ventilation airflow = 100% outdoor air (one pass system).

Use Enthalpy Wheel heat recovery device to pre-cool the OA.

Room air-change/hr to be about 15.

Ignore heat gain from suppy air fan motor.


1st Step Calculation:

Conditioned Air (CA) from HRW

Comments:

The above example illustrates the function of import CA from HRW to AHU.

Notes:

1) In HRW calculation, Standard Airflow option is used for the purpose of this calculation.

2) In AHU calculation, Reheat option is turn-on with coil ADP set at 43.5 oF.

3)The above example shall not be taken as the only solution approach. There are various design approaches available. You can "play" with various design input parameters with just a few clicks in aPsychroAC.

4) The coil ADP at 43.5 oF is fairly low. DX system or 39 oF chiller system is feasible.
