How to help a student:

Knowing that a student is struggling with their mental health can be scary and confusing. You may feel helpless, but as a faculty member, you can make a difference by listening, being prepared, and knowing when to act. Knowing the questions to ask, how to connect your student to help, and the do's and don'ts of talking to your student about mental health are crucial.

Where to turn:

It may not always seem this way, but there are many options for seeking help and talking about mental health needs. Students can be encouraged to turn to parents, professors, coaches, RAs, or friends. These are good places to start.

Please never ignore or underestimate remarks about suicide.
