1) Use at least 1 chord progression from the Common Chord Progressions sheet
2) Use this rhythm. (Can you use it forwards, backwards, repeating the 1st crotchet's worth of rhythm?
3) Lyrics - explore destination writing.
The other guitarist had chosen a chord progression of Am, C, C/B before moving to the chorus using chords of Am, F and G - whilst being in a tuning of Eb. (All chords sounding flat as being half a step down).
For the chosen rhythm we kept it continuous throughout the entire song via the drums.
Next for the lyrics we had elaborated together a mood to be set - being melancholy - we then wrote other ideas via a mind map to accumulate a possible story. Our drummer suggsting to writte from different narratie perspectives - which our singer had used for inspiration in the lyrics of the verses in which she wrote the lyics for the rest of the song.
For my guitar section I had used interval chords to create the melody - in sync with the vocals - later dropping out to play a repeated phrasing which I then played as a crescendo towards the end of the son, moving up to the higher strings to play the same phrase but as an octave higher to create suspense towards the end, along with the drums being more accentuated with the chords.
1) Write something using a mode. (Common interesting modes are Dorian, Lydian and Mixolydian)
Advance challenge - can you change mode?
2) Rhythm - include lots of syncopation - accented off beats.
3) Lyrics - explore descriptive character writing. Can you describe a character with lots of imaginative descriptive words.
The other guitarist (who had played bass) wrote a bassline in c mixolydian as well as the rhythm section in which I played the chords over the bassline - then playing in harmony with the descending bassline in the chorus section - the rhythm being syncopated.
For the drums we had the drummer play along with a syncopated rhythm along with the other instrumentation.
For the lyrics we had chosen to revolve the lyrics around the character prompt as a 'funky guy' - we had kept the lyrics as cyclical with a few rhyming lines in which are singer expanded upon later.
1) Use a pedal note where you have changing chords over the same bass note. Great for intros.
2) Use a (Compound) triple time signature such as 6/8, 9/8 or 12/8. Watch the video explaining compound time.
Advance challenge - use an irregular time signature that can include a group of 3. E.g. 7/8 can break into groups of 3,2,2.
3) Lyrics - Cut up technique.

Me and the other guitarist had created this song when we had just been messing around where I had played the stacatto riff in the opening of B, F#, C# (7-7-7-9-9-9-1-1-1) (Bsus2) then adding other notes after to create a melody where I then played over a melody in interval chords. The other guitarist ading the neccesary pedal note of B on the low E string throughout chord changes.
For cut-up technique we used quotes from Breaking Bad and the folklore tale of 'Mothman' which I had suggested. It was amazing.
The time signature had been set in 6/8.
