Okay...what the funk
Okay...what the funk
Improvements: There were moments where the mix was quite abrupt and didn't necessarily ease-in as well with changes in the structure - particularly with the intro an improvement to be made would be rising the energy of the music later-on.
For funk I started with an upbeat drum beat with the foundation being on a MIDI keyboard adding drum beats under to layer the thickness and rhythm - looping a boogie style hi-hat topper atop of the drumming. Keeping a similar boogie style funk bass line under the song before leading to a slap bass solo for the chorus with a funky guitar chord progression underneath before for the chorus and outro stripping this for a wah heavy quicker chord pattern creating a fleeting sound. For the vocals I added a small soft plate reverb for both adjusting the eq to fit each tonality of the voice - setting the vocal samples into the key of cmajor which the song is in adding that darker richer tone to the voices. The female vocals in the introbeing more gospel influenced edited to be in sync with the more funky rhythm. For the sample pack for the male voice I structured the lyrics to fit as they would in a usual song "trying hard to remember - somebody somebody- this is the love, this is the love, this is the love". With the final "this is love" raising up and falling back down in the finale - drawing out another male gospel line to harmonise - sounding bluesy. For the mid-section of the song I broke up the rhythm with a very brief breakdown at the 25th bar, performing the bass line and drums on a MIDI keyboard, with a vocal run then repeating back into the song at the same verse once more.
