Both devices deliver pre-measured dosages of a micronized powder but operate differently.
DISKUS - is a round, plastic dispenser that generally contains 60 doses of medication. Individual doses are contained in a blister strip inside the device. To take the medication, the patient initiates a "trigger" action with the diskus that pierces one of the blisters, making the powder available to be inhaled through the diskus mouthpiece. It also has a counter that displays the number of doses remaining. The trigger action advances the counter to the next lowest number. It is discarded after use.
ROTAHALER – Is just a dispensing device and does not come pre-loaded with medication. Instead, each dose of powdered medication is stored inside a capsule called a rotacap. To take the medication, the patient loads one rotacap into the Rotahaler and twists the base which opens the rotacap. The powdered dose is inhaled through the mouthpiece of the Rotahaler. This device is reusable
