An observational assessment tool designed to evaluate a pharmacist's ability to verbally present a case to a group of colleagues. This differs from a case-based discussion, which involves a dialogue between a pharmacist and their assessor.
Any case that a pharmacist considers to demonstrate their contributions to care and provide useful learning points could be used. They may choose to deliver a case presentation to colleagues as evidence that they have addressed feedback from a previous SLE - e.g. a Mini-CEX highlighted that their knowledge of intravenous fluid management was lacking, so they have identified a case where they have intervened on fluid management and electrolyte replacement in a patient with diarrhoea and vomiting.
However, to avoid duplication of evidence in a portfolio, pharmacists should not use the same patients that they have used for case-based discussions, contributions to care / interventions records or reflective accounts.
The case presentation could be delivered asynchronously (e.g. using a recording), however, there should be some mechanism in place for learners to ask questions and the answers shared with those that have accessed the recording. Pharmacists may wish to deliver a presentation in their workplace to obtain formative feedback before they submit it for a summative assessment as part of a PgDip in Clinical Pharmacy. However, both the pharmacist and their assessor should ensure they are familiar with the university's Academic Misconduct policy to ensure the feedback given doesn't contribute to a case of collusion.
As for the Teaching Observation , the assessor should obtain feedback from attendees before completing the SLE feedback form.
