While selecting a thrower alone from physical attributes can be helpful, the following tests can help you place a number on the body type of the athlete, to help you better understand the new thrower, and what their strengths and weaknesses are. This following list (Santos and Shannon, 1989), a rather simplistic grouping compared to the more effective quad test, that is shown below.
Standing Long Jump:
Female: 7-feet
Male: 8-feet
Vertical Jump:
Female: 18-inches
Male: 26-inches
50-yard sprint (Flying Start):
Female: 6.9 seconds
Male: 6.2 seconds
Bench Press:
Female: 95% of bodyweight
Male: 125% of bodyweight
Deadlift:
Female: 115% of bodyweight
Male: 150% of bodyweight
Squat:
Female: 135% of bodyweight
Male: 195% of bodyweight
