The Start of the throw. Sandra Perkovic creating a long stretch
Kristjan Ceh, initiating the wind, with level arms
Frederick Dacres, in a full wind, before initiating the throw
Yaime Perez, about to come out of the wind and push and rotate over her left foot. She has a higher orbit then the male athletes.
Alekna, dropping down on the left and pressing into the middle, notice the discus is behind his right hip. To learn more about the left side drop, look at Mac Wilkins 9 o'clock drop.
The sweep around the left leg by Perkovic as she pushes into the middle of the ring. The stretch continues with the discus still behind the right hip.
Another example of the right leg sweep to the middle by Allman. The discus still remains behind the right hip.
Alekna lands in the middle with weight over the pivot foot, on the ball of his foot.
The athlete, Ceh rotates around his pivot leg in the middle of the circle and keeps his weight back, the discus high and back still behind the right hip.
Perkovic pivots around the right side, and plants/blocks the left side and foot. She initiates the throw with the right knee driving into the left side, slinging the hip, shoulder and hand like a whip.
WIth the left side creating a block, the right side of Perez, whips around slinging the discus out. This is the first time the discus is not behind the hip, as now there is an active right arm.
Perez, performs a non-reverse throw. The feet remain in contact with the ground and the athlete use the blocked left leg to accelerate the right side into the throw. This is done very aggressively.
In this throw, Valerie Allman, performs a reverse with her follow through. She performs a block with her left side, and then when the right side reaches as far out and extends into the sector, the reverse is done, but switching the feet and getting the entire body into the throw.
All three of the photos above, depict the follow throw of an athlete that has released the discus and has performed a reverse. This helps the athlete remain in the circle, but also uses the entire body at the finish of the throw.
