Lesson 1: Assessment as Learning and Metacognition
It is being stated in the course pack that Assessment as Learning is the use of ongoing self-assessment by student in order to monitor their own learning. So it means that assessment as learning can be very beneficial and one of an effective tools to use for learners, in order for teachers to track every learner's strength and weaknesses. With the help of this also is that we can track their progress and improvement in their studies over time.
Through this we can help students with their uncertainties and questions that may need some clarifications and answers.
Some of the assessment that we can use is the KWL chart. With this kind of assessment teachers can measure the prior knowledge of their students. Second is that learners will be more engaged and be motivated to ask questions. And lastly is that learners can reflect and they can identify some areas that needs more learning to do.
Lesson 2: Roles of Teachers and Students in Assessment as Learning
The roles of teachers in Assessment as Learning are that, they are the one in charge with what will be the appropriate assessment that should be given for learners. And teachers must be the one to give clear and direct objectives that must be attain at the end of the period. They must make sure that the assessments that they will give to their students will be appropriate and will give encouragement and sparks their interest to learn new things.
The roles of students in Assessment as Learning are that, they must be active in learning, setting their goals, self regulation and metacognition. First is that students must be active in learning, for them to be able to have an improvement in their studies. The second one is that they must set their goals in learning. Through this they can prioritize important things that may align in academic purposes that will foster their better improvement in school. The third one is that they must self regulate. Every student must choose the best strategy that will enable them to learn hard. The best example of this will be the habit of studying, that will help them to have a better outcome in school. And lastly is metacognition. The ability of a single learner to think and understand how they will learn. And to be aware of the processes that they must need to go through in order to satisfy and get the best result as possible.
