In this chapter you will learn:
In this chapter, we focus on intentional teaching practices (e.g., engaging activities, thoughtful questioning, and meaningful feedback) connected to the core elements of PDI:
• wonder & discover
• collaborate & discuss
• create & take action
• analyze & reflect
For each element, we identify specific instructional activities from our own teaching or ones we have gleaned from our colleagues in various settings. These teaching friends have helped us to recognize four common overarching types of instructional activities that cut across grade levels: modeling, building knowledge and deepening learning, scaffolding, and monitoring and giving feedback. We hope these examples offer a glimpse of inquiry in action and inspire you to possibly try out or adapt these activities to make them your own.
