Five bright young scientists from the Peace Country represented the region at this year’s Canada Wide Science Fair (CWSF) in Edmonton between May 13-20. Faith Bruneau from High Prairie, Micah Hansen from Peace River, and Hannah Klinck, Janessa Bourlon and Isabella Pozniak from Valleyview were among the nearly 400 students from across Canada to participate in the weeklong science competition and celebration in Alberta’s capital city. The regional organising committee would like to congratulate all of this year’s CWSF finalists! You all did some amazing science and you all were wonderful representatives of Peace Country. We thank you for your hard work and dedication, and wish you all the best in your future endeavours.
We would like to extend an additional congratulations to Micah Hansen, whose excellent project “Homemade Fertilizer” was recognized with a Bronze Medal at CWSF. Congrats Micah!
Finally, we would like to recognize the adult chaperones - or “delegates” - that volunteered a week of their time to ensure that these amazing students could attend and enjoy the national fair. Mr. Steven Hansen, Mrs. Meghan Rhodes, and Mr. Adam Rhodes - thank you all!
We hope to see you all again next year! Until then, have a wonderful summer!

Students from across the Peace Country were greeted with sunny skies as they arrived at the Catholic Conference Centre next to the frozen Peace River on Thursday, March 23 for the 39th edition of the Peace Country Regional Science Fair. After one cancelled and two virtual fairs, it was wonderful seeing everyone in person again!
New this year, we hosted a number of projects from students in grades 5 and 6 and it was such a positive experience that the committee is looking into possibly making it a permanent addition.
For a full list of this year's projects, please see our PROGRAM or our PROJECT ZONE. Feel free to browse the PHOTOS from this year's event as well.
Now, on to the thanks and congratulations.
First, we would like to congratulate the students who participated in this year's fair! You all put countless hours of work into your projects and that was evident in the quality of work we saw this year! Presenting a project at the regional fair is quite the accomplishment and you should all be proud of the work you have done.
Second, we would like to thank the local experts who volunteered their time to act as judges, without whom we could not have a fair. We know that it can be difficult to get the time away from work to support our event, so we really do appreciate the effort that you all made to make this event a success.
Third, we want to thank our SPONSORS for their generous support. In particular, we want to recognize the continued support from Mercer Peace River, who is our Platinum Sponsor and has been with us for many years. Holy Family Catholic Regional Division also deserves special recognition for their contribution of the venue on such short notice - thank you! The organizers would also like to recognize the generation donation of snacks, coffee, and gift cards from the Peace River Tim Hortons - thank you!
Finally, without any further ado, we are pleased to announce this year's winners:

10 days. Peace Country Regional Science Fair will be happening in only 10 days. The organizing committee is excited to welcome you to the first in-person fair since 2019 - in a very short 10 days!
First, an important update. Since we last spoke, the LOCATION of the fair has been changed. Previously, we were planning to hold the event at the Belle Centre in Peace River. THIS HAS CHANGED. PCSRF will be held on March 23, 2023, at the Catholic Conference Centre, in Peace River, Alberta. For those of you who prefer street addresses, that's 10307 99 Street, Peace River. You can also see the location on Google Maps HERE.
Second, a couple of reminders. After the judging has taken place in the morning, students will be provided with a lunch (likely a sandwich from Subway), and taken to the nearby River City Cinemas to watch a movie. The cinema's concession will be open for students to purchase snacks if they want. With that in mind, please remember to bring along a little spending money if you would like to take advantage of this. A full, (mostly) finalized schedule is available HERE.
As always, should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact a member of our organizing committee.
Looking forward to seeing you at the fair next week!

March 23rd is fast-approaching, and with that comes many updates.
First: student registration for PCRSF 2023 is NOW OPEN. Click HERE and fill out the Google form to register for this year's fair.
Second: the venue for this year's event is the Belle Petroleum Centre in Peace River. For those of you who attended our last in-person fair way back in 2019, you'll remember where that is. Otherwise, here is the location on Google Maps.
Third: Schedule. A detailed schedule for the day of March 23 is now available HERE. It may become more detailed as the date of the fair approaches ever closer.
Fourth: Posters! Check out this year's science-filled posters below! We even have a printer-friendly version this year for anyone who wants to print out a hard copy!
As always, if there are any questions about anything science fair-related, do not hesitate to contact Kristen Blanchette (kblanchette@hpsd.ca), Adam Rhodes (admrhodes@gmail.com), or any other member of our board.
Looking forward to seeing everyone soon!

Posters updated March 13 to reflect change of venue
Thursday, March 23, 2023 will be the date of the 2023 Peace Country Regional Science Fair! We plan to have a one-day in-person fair in the Peace River area this year.
With an in-person fair comes a return of physical poster boards! However, if you would also like to create a digital poster board that can be shared more widely (and that will be the virtual part of the 2023 hybrid national fair), please feel free to follow the instructions from last year's fair.
Full details will be made available in the new year. Should you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact one of our board members.

We are excited to announce that planning for the 2023 PCRSF has begun! At this stage of the preparations, we are in the process of developing the final format and schedule. To help with that process, we have opened the School Registration for this year's fair to be filled out by the region's science teachers. If there is sufficient interest, we may be able to have an in-person fair this year! Otherwise, it may be entirely virtual - as has been the case for the previous two years - or we may have a hybrid in-person/virtual fair. As mentioned above, the details are still very much up in the air, and you can help with our planning by completing the school registration or indicating your interest in participating to Kristen Blanchette (email below).
Keep your eyes on this website for additional details as the date of the fair approaches. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Kristen Blanchette (kblanchette@hpsd.ca) or any other member of the PCRSF committee.
