Below are the instructions used for registration in the 2022 fair. In particular, the instructions provided here can be used to create a virtual project on ProjectBoard.
Registration for the 2022 fair is NOW OPEN.
Please click HERE to begin the process.
You will be re-directed to a site hosted by YSC that we are using to host the fair. Following the directions provided during the process, you should be able to register for this year's fair. Should you come into any problems, we have included an outline below, and if that doesn't resolve your problem, please contact Adam Rhodes via email (admrhodes@gmail.com) and he will work to help you.
Additional resources:
Head on over to the registration page by clicking HERE. On that page, there will be a box that looks like the image below. This box will begin the process of creating your Youth Science Canada (YSC) account. If you already have a YSC account (if, for example, you attended last year's fair), then you can simply click on the "login" at the bottom right.
2. After you enter your email and confirm that you are a student at a Canadian School, you will receive an email from YSC to that address. In that email, there will be a link for you to follow allowing you to create a password (see image below).
3. Following the link from the email above will bring you to a registration page like that pictured below. Your region of "Peace Country" should already be filled out, but the rest is up to you!
4. Once you complete that form, you will be taken to your YSC dashboard that will look like the image below. You will now want to create an account with ProjectBoard, as this is how you will share your project with us. To do this, click on the "My ProjectBoard Workspace" link in the rightmost box.
5. Clicking that link will bring you to the page pictured below. To begin, click on the red "Log in" box in the top right.
6. A dialogue box will appear asking for a username or email address. Use the SAME EMAIL ADDRESS that you used to complete Step 1 above.
7. Once you've entered your email address, you should receive another email from YSC that looks like the image below. You will use the 6-digit code in this email to confirm your email with ProjectBoard and complete your account setup. If you don't receive this email right away, try checking your spam folder or asking the system to re-send the code with the "Try again" button on the bottom of the dialogue box.
8. You should now be brought to a page that looks like the image below. This is where any projects you create will appear. If you are new to ProjectBoard, there will be no projects listed. To begin a new project, click on the purple box in the top right that reads "START".
9. A dialogue box will appear, giving you a choice of either an English or a French project template (pictured below). Choose the language that your project is in and press the "NEXT" button on the bottom right. You will be brought to an ethics statement that you will need to read and answer before proceeding by clicking the "OK" button on the bottom right.
10. Next, you will be asked to choose a YSC challenge that best describes your project. Choose one and click "Apply" to continue.
11. Congratulations! You have now created your first project! The template will look like the image below. In order to save your project, you will need to give it a title and a description in the boxes provided.
12. Next is up to you! Fill out the template with your project. You can customize the ProjectBoard however you like, but do keep in mind that the short video is required, and the judges will be using the information that you provide here to judge your project.
12. A) If you have a partner, you will both need to set up accounts, but you will be able to share one ProjectBoard. Once it is created, you can add your partner by clicking on the "+" symbol under "Team" found below the project description box.
13. Once you have your project set up, you will need to make it so that the organizers of the fair can find it. To do this, click on the toggle switch next to the "Private Mode" at the top of the previous image. Doing this will switch your project to "Public Mode". Don't worry, though, that only means that the organizers can see it, not the whole world. You can also undo this later, but it will need to be in "Public Mode" for the fair.
14. After you have made your project "public", you will need to share it with the organizers. To do this, click on the small image of the chain at the bottom left of the image below. This will copy the link to your project to your clipboard, and this link will be what you share with the organizers.
15. Finally, we want to complete our registration for the fair. To do this, return to the YSC dashboard (the page from Step 4, https://portal.youthscience.ca/dashboards/main) and use the navigation bar on the left hand side to find "Registration" under the heading "Peace Country Regional Science Fair 2022".
16. Doing so will bring you to the registration page pictured below. To fill out the various forms, click on the blue text on the left, or on the edit icon on the right. You will need to complete all of the forms to be registered for the fair.
17. The first two forms are general contact information. For the school select, please ensure that you are choosing the correct school from the list by confirming the postal code.
18. The next two forms are about your project on ProjectBoard. The first is where you will connect to your ProjectBoard project. The page should look like the image below, and you should be able to find your project listed there. Select the project you are submitting to the fair and click the blue "Submit" button at the bottom of the page. Clicking the button under "LINK" will take you to that project so you can confirm you are submitting the correct project.
19. Once all 6 of the forms have been completed, you are registered for the fair. You can continue to work on your project until the fair begins on March 14, but during the fair you will be unable to make changes to your project.
20. You will be able to view your project alongside your fellow science enthusiasts at this website beginning the week of March 14.
21. Should you have any other questions or troubles, please contact Adam Rhodes by email (admrhodes@gmail.com) and he will work with you to solve the problem.
