We use could to make a polite request.
For example:
Could I have some orange juice? Could you bring me a fork?
We can also use could to talk about the past:

"Could" game: Instructor says places and students ask "could" questions, which can be heard in those places. e.g. Train station - Could I have the time? Could I get a ticket to New York?
Example places for instructors to use: dinner table, department store, supermarket, school, friend's house, restaurant.

We also use would to talk about what we want, and want to do.
