Google Developer Groups (GDGs) are local communities supported by Google that aim to meet, share, and grow between developers. Every person is welcome with any kind of background. Events organized cover technical topics on both Google and non-Google technologies in order to gain new skills through hands-on workshops, training, events, panels and meetups, online and in-person. The GDGs organize at least one event every 3 months, and the largest event organized by a local chapter is DevFest: a very large event, usually of 1 or more days, muti tracks, that reaches developers not only nationally but also internationally.
My role: Community Leader
My path in the GDG world is very articulated and full of experiences.
I enter GDG Turin in the communication team and collaborate in the realization of events.
A year later I became lead in the GDG Bari, which led me to grow as a speaker and community manager, and I became a community lead in charge of organizing the first DevFest Levante: a week-long event in Salento in a camping where workshops and multi-track talks were held in the morning and team-building activities were held in the afternoon.
After this experience GDG Trento also wanted me on board the team and together with the old team I was in charge, besides supporting in the DevFest organization, of making the handover to new forces that took over the community.
Given the commitment required as an organizer over the years I decide to remove myself from GDG Turin and Trento remaining in GDG Bari.
In 2020 to come together despite the pandemic we organized as GDG Italy the DevParty Together and the National DevFest in the online format. I was in charge in both cases of co-managing the team of 40 organizers composed of GDG leads from all over Italy.
In 2022 I coordinated the organization of the DevFest Triveneto organized in collaboration between GDG Trento, Verona, Padua and Venice.
