"Osnovna škola Ante Curać-Pinjac"

Osnovna škola Ante Curać-Pinjac is located in Žrnovo and it is one of the 5 primary schools on the island of Korčula in Dalmatia.

Primary school Ante Curać-Pinjac from Žrnovo is a parent-school to whom is belong primary school Pupnat (branch school from the mandatory place).

The form of education and the concept of school existed in the distant past and the present school has been operating since 1954. and has 86 pupils and 19 teachers. Although small with great spirits, the school participates in various projects and has provided its students with more interesting and quality education.

Walking in time, they do not neglect their rich history and tradition, but in different ways, they come to know and show the world a literary, dramatic, dance, artistic or culinary way. 

◦ thanks to the financial support of the City Hall of Korcula and County of Dubrovnik-Neretva, school is included in the project:

"QUALITY SCHOOL"

◦ They organize the "Makarunadu" for over a year, with over 1000 servings of that speciality from Žrnovo (hand-made pasta with sauce)

◦ in 2008 They explored the ancient dishes of Žrnovo and they printed a book with recipes

◦ in 2010, they participated in the research of the herbs of their place and they printed a book about 100 pages in which they described in detail the medicinal herbs, self-contained herbs, medicinal herb prescriptions ...

◦ in 2015, they were the organizers of the "The Legend of the fairies of Žrnovo" project, where they explored the forgotten legend of this place, which has been hundreds of years old and they printed a picture book that they are planning to translate into English this autumn.

◦ they also participate in many smaller projects related to ecology, old crafts, old games and toys, old customs, etc.
