Oakland Terrace is a National Green Ribbon and Maryland state green school. We have a beautiful courtyard that is used for outdoor classes, lunch when the weather permits, a therapeutic space, and a place for grade level green projects. The school's green initiatives include a schoolyard garden and learning lab, multiple efforts to reduce, reuse and recycle, and energy conservation. We collect plastic bags with the Trex Recycling Challenge.
In the fall of 2021, the PTA purchased mats for students to sit on while they enjoyed lunch in the school garden. Because this space is also used as an outdoor classroom, every class is equipped with the mats for outdoor learning. We also purchased plastic buckets that hold supplies for outdoor learning.
