The purpose of this group is to foster a culturally aware and inclusive environment where the PTA, school activities, and instruction reflect the diversity of our community and result in equitable learning outcomes for all.

We aim to directly support the new OTES Vision: “to cultivate a collaborative environment in which all students grow academically, socially, and emotionally through culturally responsive, anti-racist and anti-bias curriculum and instruction. Students will thrive in an atmosphere of love, kindness and respect to develop self-esteem, creative problem-solving skills, and a love for learning. Students leaving Oakland Terrace will be responsible global citizens with cross-cultural competence, and will be equipped to achieve in a diverse world.”

We are creating the space for conversations around equity at our meetings in partnership with our school leadership and MCPS's Equity office. As a PTA, we are using Equity Audit tools to assess our group's profile and target areas for improvement. In the school, we are lifting up the diversity of our cultures and abilities so that every student knows they are special.
