As part of its mission, the PTA engages in advocacy that supports students' academic success and well-being and improves the teaching and learning environment. This includes advocacy at the school, county and state levels across a range of topics. We do this through a variety of ways, including partnering with the Montgomery County Council of PTAs (MCCPTA). Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Access (DEIA)
Our PTA is committed to fostering a culturally aware and inclusive environment where the PTA, school activities and instruction reflect the diversity of our community and result in equitable learning outcomes for all. If you are interested in contributing to these efforts, join our DEIA Committee! The committee holds monthly meetings to discuss issues and plan activities. You can join the Committee via Memberhub or by emailing otesptadeia@gmail.com.Check out this list of resources for families to learn more about DEI issues.
Our PTA supports students and families in need in a variety of ways, including: scholarships to participate in after-school enrichment activities, a holiday drive, gift certificates for groceries or other needs, free winter outerwear, free essential items (e.g., toiletries), and snacks during after-school tutoring, and a list of resources to receive additional support.
Our mission is to appreciate the strengths of students and families that identify as having a disability and/or who are neurodiverse at our school while supporting and fostering their well-being and academic success.
Did you know OTES is a certified Green School? To support this initiative, the PTA supports our school's outdoor classroom and garden area in a variety of ways, from infrastructure to landscaping enhancements. To assist in these efforts, email ptaotes@gmail.com. No experience with gardening or environmentalism needed!
Room Parents
Room Parents are volunteers who support their student's teachers, often by organizing holiday classroom parties. The PTA helps support Room Parents by sharing communications directly with them and sharing resources. Teachers will coordinate with families early in the school year to determine the room parent for each class.
