Title: Local homology functors and flat modules
Abstract: Let R be a commutative Noetherian ring. In this talk, we introduce the local homology functor lambda^W with cosupport in a subset W of Spec R. If W is equal to a closed subset V(I) for an ideal I of R, then lambda^W coincides with an ordinary local homology functor, which is isomorphic to the left derived functor of I-adic completion functor. We show several results about lambda^W, where W is not necessarily closed or specialization-closed. As an application, we can give a simple proof of a classical theorem by Raynaud and Gruson, which states that the projective dimension of a flat R-module is less than or equal to the Krull dimension of R. Furthermore, time permitting, we give descriptions of local cohomology functors in terms of flat cotorsion R-modules.
This talk is based on a joint work with Yuji Yoshino.

Title: Ulrich bundles on projective varieties
Abstract:For a vector bundle E on a projective variety X, the condition of having no intermediate cohomology- namely, being "arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay"- imposes very strong restrictions on E. For instance, thanks to Horrocks' theorem, we know that any aCM bundle on the projective space should totally split.
Ulrich proved that for aCM bundles there exists a bound on the dimension of their space of global sections. Therefore, we can even strengthen the requirements and pay attention to those aCM bundles attaining this bound (i.e., Ulrich bundles).
Despite all of these constraints, it was conjecture by Eisenbud and Schreyer that any projective variety supports an Ulrich bundle. In this talk, aimed at a non-specialist audience, I intend to report on the history of this problem as well as to explain the contributions that, jointly with Rosa Maria Miró-Roig, we have obtained.

Title:
Existence of complete reductions and normality of monomial ideals
Abstract:
The integral closure of monomial ideals have some nice properties. It is known that a monomial ideal is normal if the first few powers are integrally closed. Recently, this was partially generalized to finitely many monomial ideals by Sarkar and Verma. In this talk, I will give a common generalization by improving their approach. The key is to show existence of certain complete reductions of multigraded modules. I will give the detailed proof and explain how we can obtain the result on normality of monomial ideals.

Title: Torsion in tensor products of modules
Abstract: In 1961 Auslander studied the torsion submodule of
tensor products of finitely generated modules over unramified
regular local rings. He proved that if the tensor product of nonzero
finitely generated modules M and N is torsion-free, then M and N
are both torsion-free.
In 1994 Huneke and R. Wiegand obtained a natural extension of
Auslander’s result for hypersurface rings. Their result, referred to
as the second rigidity theorem, establishes that if the tensor product
of nonzero finitely generated modules M and N is reflexive over a
hypersurface domain, then M and N are both reflexive.
In this talk I will briefly survey the history of these results. Then I will
discuss my joint work with Greg Piepmeyer (Syzygies and tensor
products, Math. Z., 276, 457–468, 2014). Our work was motivated
by the second rigidity theorem of Huneke and Wiegand, and it relies
upon an application of the new intersection theorem.
A special case of our result establishes that, if R is a local complete
intersection ring of codimension c, M and N are nonzero finitely generated
Tor-independent R-modules, and the tensor product of M and N satisfies
Serre’s condition (S_{n+c}) for some nonnegative integer n, then both
M and N satisfy (S_n).

Title: When is a Specht ideal Cohen-Macaulay?
Abstract:
Let R=K[x_1, ..., x_n] be a polynomial ring over
a field K. For a partition λ of n, I_λ denotes the
ideal of R generated by all Specht polynomials
supported on λ. We study the problem
"When A_λ := R/I_λ is Cohen--Macaulay?"
The following are the main results of this talk.
1) If λ =(n-k, 1, ..., 1), then A_λ is always
a CM ring of dim =k. In this case, I_λ is something
like the "Vandermonde determinantal ideal",
and the Eagon-Northcott complex induces its minimal
free resolution.
2) If λ=(n-2,2), then A_λ is a Gorenstein ring of
dim =2.
3) If λ=(n-3,3), then dim A_λ =3, and
A_λ is CM <===> char K ≠ 2.
4) In many cases, A_λ is not CM, even not pure
dimensional.
On the other hand, if λ =(n-k,k),or (a,a,1), it is
conjectured that A_λ is CM (if char K=0).
In the cases 1)--3), A_λ is reduced, but we have no
idea whether the same is true in general.
