Grades K-2
For students in grades K-2, CWA uses books, workbooks and other hands on materials. There may be supplemental activities online but the bulk of the coursework is not on a computer. K-2 students are required to attend certain on-site classes.
Grades 3-12
Students in grades 3 - 12 are primarily on a computer but with a variety of platforms and many additional opportunities that are not online, such as on-site classes and academic support sessions.
The online content is provided through the following third-party companies, for all core and elective classes. This includes career and technical classes for high schoolers.
Odysseyware
Edgenuity
Accelerated Education
Rosetta Stone
McGraw-Hill
Engage New York
CWA offers special-interest classes in their on-site classrooms in Clackamas. Among these are science labs, subject specific tutoring, enrichment classes, and workshops at the elementary, middle and high school levels. Classes generally last about 7 weeks. Tutoring is also offered on-site, four days/week.
CWA recently doubled the physical size of the school, and now has a wing dedicated entirely to the high school, and a separate wing for K-8 students, so space is not an issue for now.
Students are also encouraged to attend weekly group advisory meetings, grade level cohort meetings and tutoring on campus.
Occasional field trips to local educational sites such as OMSI, Zoo, Children's Theater, etc.
High schoolers may complete their credit requirements through the provided online classes, or an independent-study course designed and approved, or through community college options. These include a variety of science and technology options, and career related paths.
CWA has two community college options: CWA+ (part-time) and Early College (full-time). College partners include:
Clackamas CC
Central Oregon CC
Chemeketa CC
Portland CC
Mt. Hood CC
Linn-Benton CC
Oregon Institute of Technology
CWA+ is for students who will be taking most of their high school classes using the regular online program, but want to take a few classes at a community college. CWA will pay for up to $650 in tuition per academic school year (6 credits). This does not include books or fees.
For the Early College option, CWA will pay tuition and general fees for up to $1,500 per term or 12 credits. Any charges over that are the responsibility of the student’s family to pay. There is no stipend or coverage for books or other course fees. Students are required to take at least 9 college credits per term and a minimum of two of the courses must be in a core subject area or elective that counts toward the high school diploma until all graduation requirements are met. Admission to this program is competitive.
There is a required monthly meeting with an advisor to check in and monitor progress.
Special education services are provided by CWA case managers in conjunction with North Clackamas district providers.
Students are required to meet with their advisor at a minimum of twice a month. Depending on the frequency with which the student participates in online or on site activities the meeting with the advisor may be an in-person meeting, a video chat or a phone call.
SBAC annually, plus Star360 progress monitoring assessments two or three times per year.
