A very warm welcome to all the new Environmental Health students 2023!
Thank you for choosing Environmental Health as your field of study. We hope that you are looking forward to this stage of your life as much as we are looking forward to meeting you. We are here to assist you on your path as you embark on the exciting journey of study and self-discovery that awaits you.
The department will endeavour to make you feel comfortable as you start your first year in the very diverse field of Environmental Health. We will be challenging you to grow, both academically and personally to assist you to become the best version of yourself. You may rest assured that we have the necessary safety precautions in place for on-campus activities but will still be online for most of the lectures.
The Department of Environmental Health is situated on the North Campus of the Nelson Mandela University and is located within Building 202.
The Bachelor of Environmental health is offered on a full-time basis over a four-year period. Learners graduating from this qualification will be able to function independently as Environmental Health Practitioners. Graduates will be able to implement the principles of risk identification, assessment, and management to improve the health of the community.
We offer a Masters of Science in Environmental Health as well as PhD in Environmental Health.
All South African health care students must complete a year of community service during the year following their final year of study. The placement process is organised by the National Department of Health and usually takes place during the second half of each year.
