The Department of Emergency Medical Care is situated on Ocean Sciences and Missionvale Campus of the Nelson Mandela University.
The Bachelor of Emergency Medical Care is a full-time qualification over four years.
The qualification covers quite an extensive range of modules including Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, and a Rescue component. Prior to being selected for this course, you need to go through a departmental physical assessment which includes the assessment of your basic swimming capacity, fitness level, fear of heights, and claustrophobia.
Post Graduate opportunities to further your studies are available. You can obtain a masters which would open the possibility of going into educational or managerial roles, if you wish to do so. This course gives you the opportunity to specialise within the field where you can work fixed wing or rotor wing operations. There are also many remote areas in need of specialised medics where you can work as a trauma practitioner. This course is also recognised internationally.
