Modular and online learning modes are implemented to continue addressing the insufficient learning abilities of K-10 learners.
Education program supervisor, Dr. Lino T. Sanchez, confirmed Calamba's action to focus on reading and literacy programs after an increased reported number of non-readers from Grades 1-7.
De-Graded
Dr. Sanchez reported that 7-8 students per class are still incapable of reading texts despite graduating elementary school where basic skills are taught.
"Ang ginagawa namin dito ay hindi basta-basta, ina-assess muna namin ang mga bata with tests tsaka namin sila binibridge...nakakagulat lang kung paano sila nag graduate ng highschool kung hindi sila marunong bumasa," he claimed.
(What we do here is very important, we first assess the children with tests and then bridge them after...However, it's surprising how they graduate from high school if they can't read")
The supervisor also mentioned that only 6 to 8 out of 10 students are able to read texts in Filipino and English with proper context understanding.
"Naka-monitor at naka-focus kami sa mga results ng assessment para i-align namin yung mga programa," Dr. Sanchez assured.
("We are intensely focusing on the results of the assessment in order to align our programs with it")
Focusing on the future
Additionally, seminars and orientations were conducted for educators before starting the school year 2024-2025 to improve the teachers' strategy in alignment with the MATATAG Curriculum.
"Kaming mga teachers ay hindi humihinto sa pagso-solve ng mga problema...we have to control what we can control," he pressed.
("Us teachers do not stop in solving problems, we have to control what we can control")
Moreover, programs from the Department of Education, such as Alternative Delivery Mode, were implemented starting last October to continue addressing the insufficient learning abilities during typhoons.
"Hindi nagtatapos sa eskwelahan ang pag-aaral, kaya tuwing may kalamidad nagkakaroon pa rin kami ng activitions sa learnings," he concluded.
("Learning does not end in school, that is why during calamities, there is still room for activitions")
