Halang elementary school teacher, Leo Añonuevo, favors the removal of Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE) as a subject area while using the language as a medium of instruction for Grades 1-3 students instead.
Compare and contrast
According to Añonuevo, the lessons taught in both Mother-Tongue and Filipino were similar to areas of the country that uses the same language, leaving teachers and students with increased workloads.
"Actually, isa kami sa nagpropose dito kasi nauulit lang ang lesson kasi tagalog naman ang ginagamit," he insisted.
("Actually we were the one who proposed this order because the lessons end up being repetitive and people still speak tagalog")
Roots of the regions
In relation to this, regions such as CALABARZON and MIMAROPA uses Filipino as their native speaking and writing language unlike Mindanao and Visayas.
"Pwede pa sana kung magkaiba talaga ng formal language," Añonuevo confessed.
("It is still understandable if they use a different language when speaking formally,")
He clarified that the use of MTB-MLE as a medium of instruction is still supported with the education department's official memorandum and operated with competencies.
Foreign foes
However, the teacher admitted that the media influences the younger generations to gradually learn foreign languages instead of focusing on their mother tongue or native language.
"Mababalanse pa rin naman natin ang quality of education basta mabuhay ito sa formal communication,"
("We can still balance the quality of education as long as we can use it for formal communication,")
Moreover, he assured that the educators' jobs would not be affected by the subject cut because of proper backgrounding and the Vice President's admin task removal for lighter workload.
