When the Philippines was plagued with a disease on illiteracy, a prescripted hobby assured everybody on their worries.

The mind can’t cough or sneeze when in times of need – unlike the body, the malnourishment of the mind only comes through knowledge and speech. First Chapter

Starting from kinder to the first grade of elementary – students are exposed to a wide variety of books. From imaginative fairytales that will imprint fantastic stories to epics and origins of places and of all things bright and beautiful – text and literacies has long been written into the corners of young students’ minds.

Bringing a page out of their books of plans and contingencies, the Department of Education, represented by Dr. Lino Sanchez as the education program supervisor, decided to implement a reading program as a solution against the ongoing language crisis of the country – as a part of a revised curriculum, catered for students of all levels and capabilities.

Highlighting the grades of kinder to grade three in the records of their new profound story, DepEd envisions a better future full of reading and comprehension of literacies for the future writers and building blocks of society, expanding the volumes of their knowledge and increasing their fluency early on.

With proof reading and a supervised time for reading and learning, DepEd makes sure that every word is read and understood along the way.

Raising Actions

With the exposure to materials in their early years of education, the minds of students bloom into creativity and artistic passion. What then follows is thirst of academic and realistic visions – which their minds have not yet accounted for.

Amidst the sea of storms and waves of heat that hits the country, the government has no choice but to close the classrooms and traditional means for education, however they open up the possibility for the continuance of education, at the comfort of each student’s homes.

Selecting a book from their specialized shelves, DepEd publicize the books of modules – encouraging an at-home-experience for individual learning. Fantasies turned into explanatories and legends transformed into cause and effects, problems and solutions. Far from the genre of child-like stories in the early years of their reading journey, these informative books tackle more of a realistic genre with an informative approach.

Containing chapters of lessons and step by step solutions, these books contain all things about the current curriculum and each subject’s most essential learning materials.

Introductions finish and the bar rises. Just like any books with a rising action and a climax, when a student progress into higher years of education– their reading materials takes a new form – this time equipped with lessons and of equivalent information.

Concluded Instructions

Outside the school and past the gates of institutions, DepEd hopes that student take this new found hobbies as a supplement of education.

Reading and writing is not limited to learning materials and child-like stories – at least according on the outside cover. Across numerous schools and other organizations, the rise of clubs and programs– especially that in reading and writing are already inking their part in the institution.

Genres such romance, thrillers, mysteries, and other interests form from the creative pursuit of literate passion for students of all ages, sometimes bringing themselves as a part of the story – relating or being the author of the publications themselves.

Volumes of advantages comes to those exposed to literacies, and DepEd hopes that it continues to spread to every student – making reading take form as a medicated hobby.

The life of a student is a problem with a solution and an answer – a story waiting to be unfolded, dictated by their own decisions’ open chapters. The cure for a malnourished mind had already been supplemented deep within the student’s everyday actions. It just takes time for the medicine to take action and for a solution to take effect.
