The Advanced Jazz Band is an auditioned group open to select numbers of wind and rhythm instrument players. It is an advanced performing band group at Olympus High School and requires high levels of commitment, dedication, and individual musicianship from its members. This ensemble has a very busy performance schedule and meets before school at 6:30am on M-Th.
Students interested in Jazz Band need to be concurrently enrolled in or have previously taken Symphonic Band, Percussion Ensemble, or Orchestra. Exceptions can be made for piano and guitar, who should have previous experience with their instrument. All students, regardless of age or ability, audition for Jazz Band.
This is a year long advanced jazz ensemble class here at OHS and meets before school Monday-Thursday at 6:30am. Admittance is by audition-only. Instrumentation includes 2 alto saxophones, 2 tenor saxophones, 1 baritone saxophone, 4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 1 pianist, 1 drumset player, 1+ guitar players, and 1 bass player.
