Summer 2018 Youth Program
Programs start Monday, July 9th and end Friday, August 24th. Ages 6 through 18. All programs are free of charge. You must sign up for most programs in advance, as space is limited. Please use this form to sign up for as many summer programs as you want. All programs are based at the Old First Ward Community Center.
SPECIAL THEME WEEK ARTS PROGRAMS:
July 9th-12th: YOUR MARK MATTERS! (Limit 10)
Have a chance to work with local artist Fotini Galanes and her international project “Your Mark Matters!” Learn about the materials for drawing, drawing from life techniques and most importantly, telling your story through art. She was recently awarded Individual Artist of the Year by the Arts Services Initiative of WNY, a continuing sponsor of the OFW Art program.
July 16th -19th : CONSTRUCTING WOOD SCULPTURES (Limit 10)
Build your own wooden sculptures with OFW artist Chris Kameck using basic tools. Each student will create a small sculpture and a large group sculpture for the community garden.
July 23rd -26th: Ukulele 101 – partially sponsored by Sportsman’s Americana Music Foundation (Limit 10)
Learn to play the Ukulele with musician and teacher Helen Butler. The Ukulele is a small and fun instrument that is easy to learn for all ages!
July 30th –August 2nd : Sewing Sculpture (Limit 10)
Work with local sculpture artist Jess Widmer to learn basic sewing techniques and create unique sewn sculptures!
August 6th -9th AND August 13th -16th : Photography and Large-scale Printing/Collage*
Learn the basics of photography including digital cameras, film and phone cameras with professional photographer Sara Heidinger. Chris Kameck will work with the youth to create their own small piece and an indoor mural using the photos taken with Sara the following week.

August 20th -23rd: Create your own Dance!
Explore movement and dance with local dancer and teacher Cynthia Pegado, and create your own dance inspired by your neighborhood and your friends!
**Tuesdays and Thursdays are “NO ELECTRONICS” day.
Spend the day playing board games, card games, doing arts & crafts or playing a sport in the gym.
Green Team - Tuesday & Thursday 4:00-5:00pm
Plant and grow at our 106 Vincennes St Community Garden
Kids in the Kitchen - Wednesday 4:00-5:30pm
Learn to prepare and cook your own food!
Community Leadership Workshop - Monday 3:30-4:30pm
All youth are asked to attend this series. Learn life skills, anti-bullying techniques and more.
