Too many American neighborhoods suffer from a lack of trust between law enforcement officers and the populations they serve. Oklahoma is experimenting with a new approach based on trust, transparency, and responsibility. This methodology acknowledges the state's law enforcement officials' morality and professionalism while simultaneously highlighting areas for structural reform and increased community participation.
Promoting accountability and transparency in policing.
The Sheriff is devoted to promoting accountability and transparency among the Sheriff's Office as a whole. As part of the Excellence in Policing Initiative, the Sheriff has overhauled Department rules and regulations governing police training, officer discipline, and the investigation of officer-involved shootings. Most importantly, all of these policies have been developed in close consultation with a law enforcement leaders, community advocates, and police unions.
