The rehabilitation frame of reference teaches clients the use of compensation when remediation of underlying deficits is not possible. This FOR is utilized for individuals who have conditions that are chronic, permanent, or progressive. Additionally, this FOR can be used for individuals who prefer a compensatory or adaptive approach (ex: a 95 y/o man falls and breaks his hip, he lives through the incident, and he chooses to use a wheelchair now rather than regaining strength). This FOR can change throughout the continuity of care. For example, if you had a patient who had a CVA you may need them to use a picture board for the time being.
